This is going to hurt!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

From February 11 to 28, I am embarking on a mission to complete 2,000 push-ups to raise awareness and funds for mental health. This challenge holds personal significance, as I have faced anxiety and depression over the years. My aim is to highlight the prevalence of mental health issues and the critical need for support.

In Canada, mental health concerns are widespread. Each year, 1 in 5 Canadians experiences a mental illness. By the age of 40, half of the population will have faced a mental health challenge.

Despite these numbers, stigma remains a significant barrier. Approximately 60% of individuals with mental health problems or illnesses do not seek help due to fear of being labeled.

Funding for mental health care is also insufficient. On average, provinces and territories allocate only 6.3% of their health budgets to mental health, whereas a target of 12% is recommended by the Canadian Mental Health Association.

This challenge is particularly meaningful to me, as it's the first time I feel fit enough to meet its physical demands. Completing 2,000 push-ups in 18 days requires an average of more than 100 push-ups per day.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will support the Canadian Mental Health Association in their efforts to assist those recovering from mental illness and to promote positive mental health across the country.

I invite you to join me in this endeavor. Your support can make a meaningful difference in the lives of many. Together, we can challenge the stigma, advocate for better funding, and foster a more understanding and supportive community for those affected by mental health issues. You can support me either by a donation, and by encouraging me to keep going as this is going to be difficult!

Thank you for your generosity and encouragement.

Warm regards,

Derek
