About My Challenge
My journey into mental health and wellness began in 2007 after losing my uncle, who died by suicide. He struggled in silence, feeling ashamed of being bipolar and believing he was alone. His loss reshaped my life and led me to learn more about the disorder that claimed his. Through that research I recognized patterns in myself that ultimately resulted in my own diagnosis of Bipolar II Disorder.
Receiving that diagnosis didn’t define me — it empowered me. It opened the door to understanding, to discovering coping tools and strategies, and to building habits that support my wellbeing every single day.
In 2018, at age 38, I suffered a heart attack brought on by stress and the relentless pressure I put on myself as a mother, wife and professional. It was a powerful reminder that mental and physical health are deeply connected, and that pushing through isn’t always strength — sometimes strength is slowing down, speaking up, and asking for help.
Mental health is also a family affair. I have been on the sidelines, a witness to family members struggling to cope with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and the challenges that come with addiction and recovery. These experiences have taught me that no one should ever feel ashamed of their struggles, and no one should face them without support.
That’s why I signed up for the 2000 Push‑Up Challenge in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association. The resources, education, and community they provide are essential to building a healthier society — one where people feel seen, supported, and never alone.
This challenge is my way of honouring my family, my journey, and everyone who fights a battle that isn’t always visible. Every push‑up is a commitment to awareness, compassion, and hope.
All proceeds help the Canadian Mental Health Association to support mental illness recovery and foster positive mental health in Canada.
