About My Challenge
Over the past few years, the veterinary field has been facing its own mental health challenges. A 2019 study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that both female and male veterinarians were significantly more likely to die by suicide compared to the general population.
Another 2020 study found that vets are also experiencing higher levels of anxiety and depression.
Veterinary professionals are feeling the pressure more than ever, with heavier workloads and staffing shortages taking a toll.
On top of that, inflation has driven up the costs of products and services, leading to some frustration from clients. Sadly, some have even accused vet staff of being "money-driven" or "uncaring," which only adds to the stress and compassion fatigue many are already facing.
It's crucial that we work to break the stigma around mental health and encourage our loved ones to seek support when they need it. As a team, the clinic will be completing 2,000 push-ups in 23 days to raise awareness and funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association. Please support us as I #pushforbetter from February 5-27.
