About My Challenge
Hi! I'm completing 2,000 push-ups in 18 days to raise awareness and funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association.
As someone who grew up with a parent with a mental illness, I experienced firsthand how devastating it can be for the individual suffering, as well as those around them - especially if left untreated. Being raised in a culture where there is a strong stigma surrounding mental health and asking for help, as a child I struggled with taking care of someone who was supposed to be taking care of me. I had to learn to grow up and become an adult really fast, and that is not something any child is equipped to do. In that sense the mental illness took something from the both of us - my parent's quality of life and my opportunity to just be a kid.
There is no cure for mental illness (I hope there can be one day!) - what we can do is provide more support for those suffering and approach them from a place of compassion and understanding. If we can do small things together, like raise more awareness by doing an insane amount of push-ups, fundraising, donating, and sparking more open conversations about mental health, together I truly believe we can break the stigma surrounding this topic once and for all and provide better outcomes for those who are suffering from this disease that takes so much away from them.
Please support me as I #pushforbetter from February 11-28.
Thank you very much!
All proceeds help the Canadian Mental Health Association to support mental illness recovery and foster positive mental health in Canada.
